Rocky Mountain Dew

Tonight's shift at work was interesting. Got started an hour late due to change ups and obstacles. But still got done. Did my old area, the one I can do in my sleep. And probably have.

In four days time I will have begun my phlebotomy classes. Seeing the textbooks in an office I cleaned made things a bit more realistic. And being in the lab tonight, I had two or three ladies talking to me about it. Even though I'm never in that area anymore, they knew I'd gotten accepted into the classes and was about to start, and were wishing me luck. It was kinda nice.

While cleaning the ER tonight, there was a trash can with several soda bottles. I would like to thank the ER staff for throwing away their Mountain Dew bottles with caps intact, allowing me to remove them and enter their codes in the Dark Knight Rises sweepstakes. I usually don't give a damn about bottle caps, unless they say "free 20oz bottle Pepsi or Dew" but I'm actually doing this Dark Knight Rises thing. Entering for both advance screening tickets and an XBOX 360. So far, 4 entrees for each.

So recently (in the past few months that is) I have heard a remake of "Man of Constant Sorrow" and one of "Rocky Mountain Way." The former.. ah.. sucked. Shoulda left it with the Soggy Bottom Boys. However... sorry Joe Walsh... I love the new Rocky Mountain Way, by Godsmack. Somehow they blended Walsh with heavy metal and succeeded. In my eyes, er ears, anyway.

And now comes the time where I leave you with videos you won't watch. But should.

Tonight's selection comes from my love of James Marsters.

When She's Drinking, She's Drowning Some Riot

Pirate DRINK! Sorry, I don't turn huge and green when I get angry, I.. well.. I drink. Rum, of course. Also, listening to "Some Riot" by Elbow. I don't even know what I'm mad for. Or at. Much hatred. I hate that the things that would make me happy are unreachable, and that I have been unintentionally depending on people to provide some happiness in my life. When something interferes, you blame them and create problems and distress. No good.

I'm a traveler. I love seeing new things. If I had a superpower, it would be teleportation. I'd go to a secluded tropical beach daily (not very original, I know, but just wait), and the highest points in major cities, such as the Space Needle in Seattle, the CN Tower in Toronto, Eureka Tower in Melbourne... Sit on the topmost part of the Arch in St Louis... Yeah I would do that. I'd see the northern lights, sit upon Devil's Tower, sneak into a taping of Letterman.

A career in music is desired. Sharing my music with others. Again, not going to happen. Though I may attempt to follow my desire to launch my own internet radio station. There are many out there, why shouldn't I be able to handle doing one on my own?

So, conclusion: more self-reliant, less needy and greedy.

Sorry this post is so self-involved, but it was needed. Besides, you don't have to read it.

Cheesy Anger

Having a beer or four after a Saturday night at work. As I think of ways to describe my imbibing, I come up with this...

...and consider looking up the many many scenes from the Drew Carey Show involving beer. But I won't.

If you don't have one, invest in a bottle opener key chain. You will either use it often or be liked a greater deal more than you are now.

I had stuff to write about. Apparently it's all still at work.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Next night. Doing things a bit differently this time due to lack of things to say. (And passing out due to exhaustion and consumption of less than two beers.)

So I digress about making themed playlists, right? Fire/burning, voyeurism, etc... My latest idea is a "tough guy" theme. With Metallica of course. "Shoot Me Again" is my favorite song of theirs and spawned this particular idea. Next song would be "This Town Ain't Big Enough For Both Of Us" by Sparks. It's a work in progress. Or a "pissed off" playlist.

I heard a favorite on the radio today that I hadn't heard in a while. "Save Yourself" by Stabbing Westward. Immediately pumped up the volume. It's very worthy of blown speakers.

You may assume I'm a big fan of Metallica now. Quite the opposite. Their music is way overplayed on the radio so I got tired of them. I liked their St Anger album when it came out, and it remains my favorite of theirs.

However, one thing I have always thought about... If there's ever a cinematic movie about Metallica, I would very much want to see Ron Pearlman play James Hetfield.

I was asked last week to switch days, to have Sunday off and work Monday as opposed to vice versa. I agreed, not only to help with whyever (yes, whyever) she needed this to occur, but because I though it might be awesome to have this day off. Turns out it's nothing special and now I'm stuck with working five days before I get another day off. Five days is nothing you say, just a regular work week, and I agree, but it seems very long when you're used to working 4 at the most... and those four are long as it is.

Today is Canada Day. In respect of that, I'll post a picture of the food I'm now obsessed with. I have never had it, but want it badly. It's called poutine. French fries smothered in brown gravy and cheese curds. Horrible for you? Most definitely. Delicious? I'm almost positive it is. Come on... brown gravy with anything and your mouth waters, right? But with french fries, which is an altered version of how potatoes are usually served with gravy. And CHEESE! No need to explain the cheese.

The Good, The Bad, And The Music

I remember when I lost my mind. There was something so pleasant about that place.

Gnarls Barkley's "Crazy" is one of my favorite songs at the moment. I can listen to it repeatedly.

Last weekend was Memorial Day weekend. I had three days off (actually I had over a week off, but I'll explain in a bit). Saturday I took the morning train...to work from 9 to 5 and th- sorry. Took the train up north and spent the weekend with a couple of friends. Saw an awesome show about drinking, during which the audience (and the cast) drinks and plays drinking games. Learned something very important. Anytime you do one or more shots of tequila, you must shout "TELEMUNDO!!" Before the show, we ate at a nearby Thai place in which you would use Sriracha to douse the fire in your mouth.

There were other elements to the weekend as well. A mild sunburn, Once Bitten, all-day-cooked spaghetti sauce, and Night Court. Clams in a Scottish Hooters. Drunk guy who got fake names.

It was an excellent weekend, especially after a not-so-good week.

OH! Fire too. Sorry, Fiyeh! With a side of wine. And among good company.

Alright, so the reason I had over a week off is because I had another death in the family. This one was much more difficult, because of who it was. My mother, sister, niece, and I drove 16 hours to go to the visitation and funeral. This trip was one I don't want to repeat, but I did enjoy seeing family I rarely see. Anyway, we left Monday and got back Friday afternoon, and I got on the train Saturday morning and came back Monday night. Not hectic, just... paced.

So as I mentioned before, I like to make themed playlists sometimes. My first pertained to fire and burning. Burnin' For You, Burnin' Down the House, Fire It Up by Modest Mouse and This Fire by Franz Ferdinand, etc.. Finally I came up with an idea for a second playlist. Songs about watching or being watched. This spawned from a combination of listening to a Gotye song (I love his whole Making Mirrors album) and hearing people say that Sting is creepy, talking about how he will be watching you breathe, walk, etc. My voyeuristic playlist. Now, I just need my laptop to work again. Sigh.

Pirate out.

Beelz

Diablo 3 comes out in... let me see... 1:39:20. I posted for Diablo'ers to have fun, with a sigh preceding it. It wasn't exasperation, it was more aimed towards the fact that guys make fun of gals for excitement about things such as Harry Potter and the Twilight saga. While I understand that there's a difference between the third installment of a top-selling video game and awaiting the release of Harry Potter 7.2, you just have to recognize that everyone has different taste. And taste in an emotionless vampire-human-werewolf love triangle is better than no taste at all.

I think.

I played Diablo 2 a couple times. It was always runrunrun (or squishsquishsquish... it was usually raining) stabstab loot. Crap, inventory full. Sellsell runrun (squishsquish) pickupleftbehindloot, sell, repeat.

Maybe I was playing wrong.

1:29:15

My vacation was supposed to end today, but I had a funeral to go to so I took the night off. I was hesitant to, since it was my first day back, but I stepped into the shoes of those closest to the deceased, and realized I should attend. In other words, when a semi-distant relative dies, their kids, parents, whatever appreciate seeing you show up.

It bothers me that I only see my family at functions such as these. There are fewer holiday get togethers (Mothers Day, Easter, etc.) and I can only give the simplified greetings and rundowns of my life to those I used to spend significantly more time with. And one by one, they're leaving. I don't want to admit this, but there were at least 3 close relatives I saw today that I know I have limited time with, given the rate we see each other now.

Change of subject.

1:08:50

Alright, to end, I'll add a video. I really like this song. The only way it's related to my post is the name. In translation, anyway.

P.S. Got the new ink I wanted! It was, as usual, a spur-of-the-moment thing. But I quite like it.

Etceteranough

Hello again. Miss me? No? Well hey I didn't even notice your absence, so suck it.

I really want to get back into something that makes me more of an individual. Writing... art... stripping... Wait I never did that.

Yeah. Odd mood tonight. Try to keep up. If you make it to the end, and forward it to 873 people, and do a hand stand while reciting the Greek alphabet backwards, you'll get a surprise.

Anyway... getting back into something would make me feel more self-worth. My strong suit was music, so I've considered joining the community band. But that'd require purchasing an instrument.

Started re-watching Smallville. And Buffy. Buffy I've seen all of, Smallville I haven't seen the last season. I forgot how much I love John Glover as Lex Luthor's father. I know the actor is gay but I'd still do him. Yes that's right. When you're a slave to my writings you're going to occasionally come across a juicy piece of TMI.

Alright, time for some less cheeky material.

Sit with me a while and let me listen to you talk about
Your dreams and your obsessions, I'll be quiet and confessional.
The violets explode inside me when I meet your eyes,
Then I'm spinning and I'm diving like a cloud of starlings...
....Darling is this love?

Some of my favorite lyrics of all time.

I came up with an idea for my nonexistent internet radio station. Have themed playlists. I already have one going, just for kicks and grins. An hour's worth of listening.

My vacation starts at the halfway point of this coming weekend. Saturday at midnight I will belong to no one's employ for the next 8 days. Plans? Clean house... relax... spend time with child... spend an evening with me mum at a comedy club after dinner somewhere and the like... and an evening of late birthday shindiggery that includes movie/dinner/drinks to wrap up my week of freedom.

More lyrics to close this post... A great song, and I woke up singing this line just the other morning.

"Have you heard? It was on the news.
You can make your peace on the dark side of the moon."

Inky Tunes

So, finally decided on where to place my next body ink. I've had the art picked out for quite a while, just couldn't decide where to put it (my back seems to be my go-to, but it already has three). Decided on my right forearm. Would have chosen my left, but it has... blemishes. Now, just need to see if a tattoo artist can doctor up the design I've chosen a bit.

I look forward to it.

(Once I can afford it.)

Been wanting to add Reggae and Hawaiian music to my collection. Just don't know many artists. I have 4 Bob Marley songs, and the only Hawaiian song I have is Somewhere Under the Rainbow/What A Wonderful World by Israel Kamakawiwo'ole, which is an outstanding song. Just never, ever ask me to pronounce his last name.

I like when music artists have side projects. Such as Pinkly Smooth, which is branched off from a couple members of Avenged Sevenfold. But I must say I like Them Crooked Vultures much more, which consists of Dave Grohl (lead singer of Foo Fighters) on drums, Josh Homme (mmm yummy) on vocals, who is the lead singer of Queens of the Stone Age, which is one of my all time favorite bands, and John Paul Jones - formerly of Led Zeppelin - on bass (and piano, and etc.) Check 'em out.
