Pretty Vices

I wish I had access to a place that has every drink ingredient ever needed. I don't mean a grocery store, more like a beyond fully stocked bar. Found a page of rum recipes that look delicious. One that particularly intrigues me is the Bloody Money recipe... A bloody mary made with rum? I love my rum... and I love my bloody marys... But the two together? Hmm. Also, there's one that calls for Blood Orange Soda. Never knew there was such a thing. And of course the classic mojito, a good choice. The fish house punch looks good as well.

...And Really BAD Eggs

A previous post rambled about different rums I'd like to try. Today I received a bottle I ordered last week, and look forward to cracking it open. Perhaps while watching the third of the Pirates trilogy, or Red. Something... Roguish.

Sole Music

I wish that women's size 5 in shoes wasn't so difficult to find.

Recently bought new tennis shoes for work. Lucky to find size 6, so I always have to settle. This new pair, however... About halfway through my shift tonight, my feet start hurting. Get home hours later, kick off shoes, peel off socks... got a blister on both of my big toes, in the same spot. Ouch.

Bowling alleys and skating rinks have size 5, why can't common retail stores?

More than one pair in my collection of shoes is children's size.

Visiting an ailing family member this weekend. I had a moment of realization today that led to a bit of undoing. Realized that I'm most likely saying goodbye.

Yep. Here it is again. I just hope I can remain composed during my visit.

Subject change. Got some new music today. Tom Waits and Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds. It was earlier stuff from Tom Waits, very very mellow sounding. Not what I expected. But he continues to intrigue me. A critic describes his voice as sounding "like it was soaked in a vat of bourbon, left hanging in the smokehouse for a few months, and then taken outside and run over with a car." I just found "Hold On" and already love it.

As for Nick Cave, his song "Red Right Hand" has always been a favorite. He was friends with the late Michael Hutchence (frontman of INXS) and sang "Into My Arms" at his funeral, after requesting that the cameras be turned off. His voice is also unique. Deep, almost silky. And his music style is definitely different. But I like.

Tom Waits became an interest of mine after seeing him in the movie Seven Psychopaths. I knew of him before, but very little. His humor and comedic timing in the movie was excellent.

Inkenuity

Past three days have been very zenic. Even getting through work without a problem (got a compliment today!). Not sure what the cause of this has been, but definitely not objecting.

Tonight brought news that was less than enjoyable, but even that didn't damper me much.

I'm regretting using some of my precious paid time off for something I don't really want to attend. But it's too late now.

So I've been researching for my next tattoo. Three ideas right now.

One:
I love the cleverness of this, I just already have a music tattoo.

Two: A self-designed Jolly Roger. Thinking about one with a tipped bowler hat, earphones, crossed sais under, a little half smile... I wish I could draw. It would be easier.

And three: hip swords. Kinda like this...
(Imagine the chest swords where the guns are.)

I like this idea. A pair of swords pointed downward on the hips. I can't find a pic of it anywhere, which isn't necessarily bad, could make me more original.

Other ideas I have aren't yet complete. These two lovely ladies...
I'm not sure of where to place. But I know I like. And want.

Hmm... maybe get the rogue on the upper left arm. Or the pirate on the upper back, dead center.

Damn. The idea was to narrow the options, not expand. Ah well. I'll figure it out.

Muckrake

To the person at my place of employment that is once again aiming to get me into trouble.

Bits of Impact

Got myself some Hugh Laurie music. Old stuff from "A Bit of Fry and Laurie" and such, and a fairly new blues album he released called Let Them Talk. What I was really aiming for was to get his "Mystery" song from the pilot of Fry & Laurie, and ended up getting quite a bit more. No complaints there whatsoever.

Side note. I love how both of them have (separate) cameos in the Spice World movie... Bob Hoskins too.

This collection of Hugh Laurie music has him doing a reggae-ish cover of "You Can't Always Get What You Want" by The Rolling Stones. Interesting.

I'm about to brave the connection of my iPod to my laptop for the first time. Hoping I successfully transferred everything and won't lose a great amount. However, if crisis ensues, I can counter it by reconnecting it to the original machine holding my music collection.

So getting an impacted wisdom tooth surgically cut out, whilst awake, isn't so great. I was fine with the cutting, but the drilling kept hitting a nerve that I could feel down to below my jawbone. Was numbed 3 times, but I don't think that a nerve that deep can really be desensitized. That was Thursday. I called in sick Friday for recoup, and worked the weekend, even though one of the meds said to stay away from people with contagious diseases (I work in a hospital, HA), and the sheet on how to take care for the next week said I was limited to a 2 pound lift limit. Shyeah. Right. As I fling 20+ pound bags of trash and linen on a daily basis. So the raw sutured hole in my mouth, the meds, and the cold I had made for a slow weekend. And of course they call me today, on my day off, asking me to come in. I decline, hoping it doesn't affect my pursuit of a day shift position.

Walk Off The Earth (5 peeps, one guitar cover of "Somebody I Used To Know") has an interesting video out now. It was shot in one take, and they fast forward and rewind a lot to certain points. Film the chorus in double time so it can be slow-mo in the finished version but their lips are still synced with the lyrics. Here, see for yourself...

I think I like Marshall the most (not the long-haired guy G (Gianni), but the other main male singer). Though I do have an awesome Beard Guy shirt.

They're so talented. Would love to see them live.

There's a link available during this video to see the unedited version, if you're interested.

Space Age Rum Blog

Blogging on my newly acquired laptop. It's nice, but it has its faults. Something is up with the touchpad, I touch it and new windows pop up randomly. Made an Xbox account, to play some games (once they download, that is... another fault). Kept trying to make my avatar and it kept closing. Grr.

I've been listening to Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots more regularly. Liking it. Also listening to Them Crooked Vultures, a band I've mentioned before. Josh Homme, Dave Grohl, and John Paul Jones. Three rock legends. Probably my first choice to see perform live.

I know how to burn with passion

Hold nothing back for future ration
Give all you are, do not make haste
Savor every single taste.

Thinking about things today, and listening to music from Rescue Me, I realized...

Oh good. My Elbow music is gone. And iTunes is freezing up. Now it's finding missing files. Or so it says.

Anyway. I realized with as many times as I lose my friendships and relationships with people, I shouldn't dwell and should just be on the lookout for what's next. Who I'll meet or who I'll realize I could spend time with. Hopefully getting a day shift will help with that.

Breathe in the future. Breathe out the past.

Hmm. Elbow's Leaders of the Free World is growing on me. Their third album, the one before The Seldom Seen Kid, which is where I got interested in them.

So... I currently have 4 different types of rum. Lady Bligh (cheap Captain), Captain Morgan Private Stock, Kraken, and Bacardi 151. Yeah, the stuff that burns through your esophagus. And that's after you blow out the flame that's lit the surface. I tried the Pyrat "fine" rum. Bleh. Never again. Gimme the not-so-fine. Still want to try the Appleton Jamaican rum. Well now. This trumps all. There is a Rogue Rum. However, I don't currently see a way to purchase it. Hmm.

To Be Continued...

First Ramblings Of The New Year

This coming weekend will be my 4th "weekend" in three weeks. Between real weekends, holidays, and an extra day off with my normal day off, I've been rocking the double down time.

So... about work... yeah... I believe I've mentioned that the building I clean is always short a person. Never seem to have the full 4 people needed. Well, last week, at his 3-month eval, one of our people walked out. Quit. Abruptly. Soo... yeah. There's that.

Facebook has a way to organize posts sometimes when there are many about the same thing. Such as the election, a holiday, a birthday, Superbowl, etc. If they can do that, why can't they make it possible for someone to be able to hide anything pertaining a certain theme? Like have a setting where you enter a key word and have anything related to it blocked. Because good God I'm so tired of... never mind.

I've said before how a lot of my liked music comes from the soundtracks of tv shows I watch. Lately I've been watching Charmed (yeah it's kinda lame but it keeps me interested. And has Julian McMahon, mmm). One of the sisters owns a club and has musical acts. She's had Pat Benetar, Michelle Branch, The Cranberries, Goo Goo Dolls, and The Flaming Lips, among others. I was surprised to recognize the last's song. "Do You Realize" from their Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots album. I've listened to that album (the only of theirs that I have) a few times, but just not terribly familiar with it. Which should be amended.

My first Flaming Lips song was from the movie Batman Forever, during an Edward Nigma scene. "Bad Days" was the reason for my purchase of the soundtrack, and was played over and over again. Getting that soundtrack also introduced me to Nick Cave (a favorite), Seal, and Michael Hutchence (performing solo but from INXS).

Might be breaking out the NyQuil soon. (But hey! I've made it this far without!)
