Day One

First day shift... check. Not too bad. I won't go through the high and low points. Can't wait til Friday, when I'm beginning my weekend when most people do... instead of going in to work as they are entering freedom.

Coming home was made even better by unexpectedly hearing my favorite band on tv. I was messing around on my laptop and suddenly heard the opening for Elbow's "Grounds For Divorce." Imagine browsing the web and suddenly hearing your beloved band playing the song that made you fall in love with them... a band that isn't popular in the US. Surprised, yes. Pleasantly. Here it is...

Also tonight, watched The Client List (a Lifetime movie) starring Jennifer Love Hewitt. Now, I've never really followed her acting. Never watched Party of Five, or The Ghost Whisperer. Saw her two "I Know" horror movies, The Tuxedo, and House Arrest...... However...... At the last movie I saw in theatres, there was a pre-movie behind-the-scenes look at an ad for the second season of her new show, The Client List (remake of the movie). Loved it.
She has thighs... and no visible ribs... and is still highly stunning. It's kind of encouraging to see that. Especially for someone who shares said attributes.

So anyway... I shushed my husband while this was playing. (Also when it showed her in different... outfits... during The Client List.)

Pain

Tonight I had a significant thought. Self-mutilation, particularly cutting one's self, may be, subconsciously to the cutter, a way of dulling other pain. When someone says or does something that hurts you to the effect of "cuts to the bone," you know that you can bring that feeling to a physical level and actually feel it, and therefore feel the pain fade away over time. Or when something hurts that bad emotionally, you can compare it to, or turn it into, physical pain.

Dull Bulb

Tonight was my last evening shift. I got home and had a celebratory drink and started watching Entourage (wasn't impressed, but I'll give it a chance).

I swapped Entourage for "Fire With Fire" which is a fairly recent action/thriller flick. With Bruce Willis, Josh Duhamel, and Rosario Dawson. The opening credits included a bunch of familiar names, like Julian McMahon, Vinnie Jones, Vincent D'Onofrio, and 50 Cent. Movie starts, I forget about the names. Didn't recognize the bad guy at all. Finally there was a scene where I recognized him and... well...

He just looked and sounded so different. Threw me off. Wow.

But, a pretty good movie. I couldn't pass up a firefighter flick.

Schmoozy Grooves

Been watching some newish tv shows lately. First was Last Resort, which I liked. It only lasted one season. I think my favorite character was Robert Patrick's. Then I started Chicago Fire, and I'm loving it. It seems to be a cross between Rescue Me and ER. I guess the first few episodes were a bit iffy, ratings wise, so they upped the storylines and made it more intense. Again, I'm really liking it. Especially Mouch and Herrmann. Once I caught up on that show (it's still airing), I started Revolution, which I'm currently viewing. And again, liking. Billy Burke is kind of a badass in this, I love it. Well... a smartass badass. Even better. This show has finished its first season and will air its second in a few months.

And Psych comes back next week! The last season's finale was a major cliffhanger.

Hopefully one of my last late-night entries. Word is, I'm going to the day shift next week. Which is a different world from what I'm used to, so wish me luck. They on days have been known to chew up and spit out those that don't, for some reason, "fit in" with them.

I'll leave you with an excellent video. Sam Rockwell on Jimmy Fallon. It's not new, but so what. It's still great. I love how it looks like Rockwell is walking out, sees Fallon start to groove and thinks "Okay then, let's dance." With LL Cool J cracking up in the background.

Crawl

I currently want to set fire to my employer's entire supply of toilet paper. And dance around it.

Not A Job

Tonight's shift brought about some speculation. I was going about my cleaning in Radiology, which is barely used during the weekend. Has several small bathrooms, some unused since the last cleaning. I got to one, scanned, saw the seat was up, no water spots on the sink, and there was no trash. As I was turning away, something snagged at my subconscious and made me look again. There was a silver ring in the toilet, which appeared, to me, to be a wedding band. I fished it out, disinfected it, and dried it off. Wondered what the story was. If the bathroom had been used, it could acceptably be an accident. But... it wasn't. It looked as if someone had come in, tossed the ring in, and left. (Though, if they had truly wanted to get rid of it, wouldn't they flush?)

My assumption is that it was a man's ring, due to it fitting none of my fingers. (Yeah I tried.) Though, I do have freakishly small fingers. Not the deformed type... just very small (and I like to think cute) feet and hands. Anyway, I turned it in, and prolly won't hear anything else about it. But it's random happenings like this that break up the monotony.

Before this, while I was working, I vented a bit via blogging, but didn't post it. I'll post it now. I was very frustrated for most of my shift when I got there, looked ahead at the schedule, and saw that come a week from tomorrow, I'm still on the evening shift.

You said 2 months tops. Yesterday was 1 month. People have been hired and trained. Yet I am scheduled for evenings for at least the next 2 weeks. Thank you for not taking my "need day shift asap" request seriously.

Commence job hunt.

I don't know the whole story. Perhaps there's more to it and they just can't transfer me yet. I just can't help but be irked.

This Evening's Finds

New background:
I absolutely love it.

And finally found a video of the best scene from Seven Psychopaths:
This fellow never ceases to entertain me.

Butter & Whiskey

Bought and tried that Shellback rum this past weekend. Half a bottle would probably have been handled better on a stomach that contained more than a few pizza rolls all day.

May be getting closer to the day shift. Started training someone tonight on my area, could be my replacement. Here's to hoping.

I'm on the last two episodes of Charmed. The dad just had a good scene. "What do you know about love? Have you had your heart broken? No? Then you don't know about love, believe me."

Last week or so, I discovered that I can set my laptop background to change at a chosen interval. So far I have 23. Including this one, which I just found and really like:

Kinda artsy.

So this series finale of Charmed is quite entertaining. I think I like the character of Grams the most, but the sisters' mom in this episode is awesome. Her expressions and reactions to others accidentally revealing details about her future are priceless. Interesting trivia: the actress who played the mom (who was in 9 episodes, out of 179) got more fan mail than anyone else on the show, including the 4 female leads.

Just purchased a song from iTunes I've been wanting... "Vicious Traditions" by The Veils. It's played during the end scene of the thriller Mr. Brooks. Also getting their Sun Gangs album to see if I like more of their work.

"Sláinte is táinte. An rud nach leigheasann im ná uisce beatha níl aon leigheas."
