The Fix Is In

First actions of August 27th, 2012... Get home from work (got off at midnight), get drink, watch some tv (an episode of Angel...)
Yeah that's the one. Anyway... Get a couple drinks in, play around a bit online, listening to iPod with newly remedied Californiacation album by Red Hot Chili Peppers (wasn't reading my last copy for some reason. I couldn't have that.) and then realize... come about a quarter til 2am... that my favorite band's newest album has now officially been released for almost 2 hours. And I don't have it. This will not do.

So I acquire. Copy, paste. Add. Feel a wide grin slowly spread across my face as I see the 13 tracks appear in my iTunes library. It's my passion... adding my favorite bands' newest material to my collection. I'm not guaranteeing I'll love it... I can't seem to appreciate 3 of their previous 5 albums as much as the other two... but the two that I love... I love enough to make them my favorite band.

Elbow is a British alternative (or Indie) rock band from the Manchester area. I first heard their music at the end of a Rescue Me episode and loved it. "Grounds For Divorce" at the end of episode 21 of season 5. Great song, great scene.

I have been wondering why I love the front man so much. Guy Garvey. Now, as I'm watching their performance at Manchester Cathedral from October of last year, I see that it's not only his voice, but the way he moves with the music. He seems to never stand up straight during singing, always bent over, swaying with the music. Watching him perform "The Birds," I loved the way he led the band and audience into the more electronic part of the song.

I must, must, must see them perform, live. Even if I have to go across the pond.

Alright, I couldn't find the Grounds For Divorce video from Rescue Me, so I'll instead end with something else. It's also from Rescue Me, and the "8 fingers" concept has stuck with me since. Good scene though, all around.

Ire

Another bad day. Another drink mixed. I was on my own today, in more ways that one. At work, we were a person short (surprise surprise) and had 3 people instead of 4. Found out around 9 that the other two were working together to get their work done. Didn't really bother me, just something that I registered and said "oh. well. ok then." to. Also a work uniform mishap. I'm needing a new pair of pants and apparently there are limits to how far the significant other will go to assist my problem. Which I was needing fixed by noon tomorrow. Not happening now. I'll have to find time between clinicals, work, and sleep to do it myself.

And was pretty much left to deal with my bad day by meself. So I am. And to the rest of the world I say...

Even on my weekends off I miss out on things. This weekend brings events I wish I could attend, or at least be invited to, included in, but guess not. And next weekend there's plenty I actually am invited to. But what? Oh yes. I WORK.

Sorry. Venting. As I said. Bad day.

Here... is an adequate description of me at the moment.

Now you'd have to see the whole scene to completely understand, but you get the drift.

Going gif crazy. Just trying to add humor to this post.

See Me Rollin', They Bleedin'

Just found a slug in my kitchen. That's a first. It was rather large. But dead. Didn't quite reach the moist oasis it was apparently searching for. In my kitchen.

I like slugs. With or without shells. Always have, don't know why. But when something from outside comes in, I always wonder why. What am I doing wrong.
See, look at 'im. Yeah my hands are small, but still. Big slug. Just wish I could have found him while he was still alive, so I could put him back outside. (I do the same with black ground beetles when I find them at work.)

I bought roller blades today, to accelerate my trudge to work. They were replaced by my regular shoes after about a block. I'm not sure if they needed adjusting or if I just wasn't used to blading, but they weren't sufficing. It probably doesn't help that I have freakishly small feet that are hard to find properly fitting shoes for.

Once at work, I then proceeded to readjust and retry. They worked fine up and down the vacated halls of the building I was in.

Yes. I did.
It was great.

So anyway, I'll try again, but right now they don't seem to be doing the job I hoped they would. I considered getting a Razor scooter thing instead, but then remembered I'm not an adolescent.

Newest song liked: Pioneer to the Falls by Interpol. I heard it on a show I've been watching. Got the whole album hoping it'd be a hit with me, but it had no wow factor. Still like the song, however.

My phlebotomy training is at the point of actually doing the blood draws on people. My first day was in an outpatient lab (where people are sent by their doctor after their appointments, but not patients in the hospital) and it was a very slow day. Even the lab personnel were commenting on how slow it was. That was for five hours in the afternoon. The next day was inpatients. Going around the hospital to patients that have been admitted for some reason or other. That was 5a-10a and better than I thought it would be, even with 2 hours of sleep. I expected to like outpatient better, since people are coming in more on their own accord, rather than being woke up at dawn by someone who wants to stick a needle in their body. But I liked inpatient more. The phlebotomist I was with was awesome, and seemed to convey nothing but confidence in me. Which is what I needed, especially after a patient backed out on me the day before. She knew what she was doing, remembered the patients and knew what they were like - before we went in to see them - and had the demeanor I wish I could have. One that comforts people, and at the same time keeps them interested. Quite outgoing, without being annoying.

Had a "well, shit" moment this evening. Realized I had lost my copy of Burnin Down The House by The Used. And by Talking Heads, though that one I don't miss as much. The remake is so much better, in my opinion.

Situation has been resolved.

Speaking of remakes, time to listen to Godsmack's "Rocky Mountain Way" again. Ta, loves.
